Kunihira

Church Orphan Home

The Kunihira Church Orphan Home is located in the rural town of Hoima, in the province of the same name.

In many parts of Uganda, kids aren’t dreaming about what they want to be when they grow up. In fact, many aren’t even dreaming at all.

Children are in near-constant danger of abduction into the LRA’s brigade of child soldiers. Each night, tens of thousands of children travel from their villages to sleep in the city, where it’s safer. They’re known as “night commuters” and their goal is simply survival.

Amid hope for peace to end the decades-long war in Uganda, children are threatened by frequent attacks and abductions. The aggression of Joseph Kony and his well-known Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) has stifled the population with fear and crushed the childhoods of the children

they attack.

The Kunihira Church Orphan Home is so much more than just a shelter. With the 5:1 orphan-to-caregiver ratio, Kunihira is a family. Here, we aim to provide holistic care to parentless children, meeting their basic physical needs, educational needs, and, above all, spiritual needs. They are given safety, security, and support. At the core of every action is the purpose to translate the love of Jesus to these hurting children. Through training, mentoring, and discipleship, each child grows in relationship with Christ and is raised to be a transformational leader in their generation.

Riots, kidnappings, ongoing conflict… Uganda has been in the news with some negative images as of late. The problems are big, but there is something tangible that we can do to care for the kids living in the middle of this turbulence. When you help sustain this home, you are providing hope for these kids; you are rebuilding a nation in the name of Jesus. Will you join us?
