Church Orphan Home

This church orphan home is located in the Turkana District of the Rift Valley Province in Kenya. It is in the far northwestern reaches of the country, about 30 kilometers from Sudan.

Kenya is a country of profound hospitality, a neighbor who has taken in thousands of refugees in times of need. In late 2007, the tables would turn as violence broke out due to political unrest. This increased Kenya’s refugee population to an alarming rate; now they are the ones who need our help.

Rising food prices and years of drought added to the problems in the region. The communities in northern Kenya struggle the most. There malnutrition rates have soared, especially among thousands of orphaned or abandoned children.

Life can be harsh in Lodwar. Home to 10,000, Lodwar's people (mostly of the Turkana tribe) work hard and share what little they have, but there isn’t enough

to go around.

Lodwar's orphan children have found a loving home and family at the Lodwar Church Orphan Home. The home has room for up to 50 orphans and caregivers, many of them widows who understand the children’s pain and loss.

The Lodwar Church Orphan home has already made a difference in the Lodwar community. Many who have been coming here have discovered true hope in Jesus Christ. About 230 people attend the church (160 adults/70 children) and with 5 new visitors coming each week. They bring the change back to their homes; families are reconciling and individuals are learning to live in spiritual community as small groups learn about God via radio-based bible studies. The open-air gospel meetings are attracting even more people hungry to hear about God.

Lodwar Home's pastor George Liwan has a certificate in Bible Theology training. Pastor Liwan and his wife Esther desire to reach out to their community. Two churches have been planted in the area so far and he has a vision to plant churches in nearby Kakuma and Lokichoggio.

The orphans now have a safe place to live, but still need provision for daily needs and their education. There is also a special need for a public address system to use at open-air gospel meetings to spread the gospel of Christ into this broken land. Help hope thrive by contributing to the lives and eternities of these defenseless children.
